Brie — Safety Policy
Effective: September 29, 2026 Last updated: September 29, 2026
This is Brie's safety policy and safety centre. It explains what we do to keep members safe, what we don't do, how to report someone, and where to get help.
It satisfies our obligations under Colorado's online dating safety law (C.R.S. § 6-1-731.5), Connecticut's online dating operator law (Conn. Gen. Stat. §§ 21a-435 to 21a-440), the Texas Internet Dating Safety Act (Tex. Bus. & Com. Code ch. 106), and the Utah Online Dating Safety Act (Utah Code ch. 13-67).
If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.

1. Criminal background checks
> ## BRIE LABS INC. DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ITS MEMBERS.
We do not screen members against criminal conviction records, sex offender registries, or any other database of criminal history. We do not exclude members on the basis of criminal convictions identified by screening, because we do not screen.
What this means for you: a Brie profile tells you nothing about whether that person has a criminal record.
Our Terms of Use prohibit anyone from using Brie who has been convicted of a felony, a sex offence, or a crime involving violence, or who is required to register as a sex offender. We rely on members to tell the truth about this, and we cannot verify it. Someone who lies to us can create an account.
2. Identity and age verification — what we do and don't verify
We do verify:
- That your face matches your photo. Every member takes a selfie, and we compare it to their profile photo using face-mapping technology, and again whenever they change that photo. See our Biometric Data Policy. - That you control a phone number. Sign-up requires a code sent by SMS. - That you own the Instagram handle you claim, if you choose to add one — verified through Meta's official Instagram API by sending us a code from that account.
We do not verify: anyone's name, age, employment, education, relationship status, intentions, character, or criminal history. We ask for your date of birth and require members to be 18 or over, but we do not check identity documents and cannot confirm anyone's real age.
Verification is a check on identity, not on character. A verified profile means the person's face matches their photo. It does not mean they are safe, honest, or trustworthy.
3. Safety awareness — please read before meeting anyone
- Use caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you. - Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work, or other identifying information in your profile or early messages. Get to know someone first. - Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information, or who behaves in a way that makes you uncomfortable — and report them to us. - Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back. Share the profile with them. - Meet in a public place for the first several dates, and stay in public. - Arrange your own transport, both ways. Don't be picked up at home and don't let anyone drop you home until you know them well. - Don't leave drinks or belongings unattended. - You can leave at any time, for any reason or none. - Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a dating profile.
4. Protecting yourself from financial crime and romance scams
Romance scams are the most common crime on dating apps. The pattern is consistent: someone builds a fast, intense connection, avoids meeting or video calling, then describes an emergency and asks for money.
- Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or financial information to anyone you met on Brie. No exception is a real exception. - Never share bank details, card numbers, passwords, or one-time codes. - Be sceptical of anyone who won't video call or meet, who says they're travelling or working abroad, or who moves you off Brie to another app immediately. - Be sceptical of investment or crypto "opportunities" from someone you're dating. This is now the most common form of the scam. - Report it. Report the profile in the app, and file a report with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov and the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
If we ban a member for fraud, we will tell members who exchanged messages with them, giving the account identifier, a warning that the person may have used a false identity or tried to defraud members, guidance not to send money, and a link to fraud prevention resources.
5. Consent and sexual violence
Consent is required at all times. Consent can be withdrawn at any moment. Sex is never owed to anyone, no matter what has been said, spent, or done beforehand.
Sexual activity without consent is against the law.
Sexual assault, sexual harassment, coercion, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images all violate our Community Guidelines and result in immediate, permanent removal.
If someone has hurt you, it is not your fault, and you can report it to us whether or not you report it to the police.
6. Prohibited conduct
The following are prohibited on Brie and, where they threaten anyone's safety, will result in immediate removal and, where appropriate, a report to law enforcement:
homicide and threats to kill · sexual abuse, sexual assault, and unlawful sexual behaviour · sexual harassment · kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment · stalking · harassment, intimidation, and threats · robbery and theft · fraud, scams, and extortion · human trafficking · child sexual abuse and exploitation · sharing intimate images without consent · impersonation · solicitation of commercial sexual services · terrorism and violent extremism.
The full list is in our Community Guidelines.
7. How to report
In the app: open the profile or conversation, tap the menu, and choose Report. You can block at the same time.
By email: hello@itsbrie.com.
Reports are confidential. We never tell someone who reported them. We aim to review reports of objectionable content within 24 hours, and we prioritise reports involving safety.
You can block any member at any time. You can also upload your phone's contacts to block people you know before they ever see you.
> Please do not submit false or malicious reports. Reporting is how we protect people, and abusing it makes members less safe. Knowingly false reports are a violation of our Terms of Use and may result in removal of your account.
8. When someone you contacted is reported or removed
If we remove a member for conduct that threatened members' safety, we will notify members who had contacted them, so far as we can identify them, and give them information about how to report to us and where to find support.
If we ban a member for fraud, the notification described in Section 4 applies.
9. Suspension, removal, and appeals
We may suspend or permanently remove an account where we believe a member has broken our Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, misused the Service, or behaved in a way that puts other members at risk — including behaviour off Brie.
We use a combination of automated detection and human review. Serious harms result in permanent removal on the first instance. Lesser violations may result in a warning, content removal, or feature restrictions.
We may not always explain the reason, where doing so would compromise another member's safety or privacy.
Appeals. If your account has been removed and you believe we got it wrong, email hello@itsbrie.com. A member of our team — not an automated system — will review your appeal and respond.
